GeoGnos User Guide | How to Explore Global Data

Welcome to the future of data exploration. GeoGnos is designed to make global geography, statistics, and history instantly accessible, engaging, and easy to compare.

1. Exploring Places & History

Navigate to the Places section to browse the complete list of 260+ world entities.

• Country Profiles: Click on any country card to view its detailed dossier (e.g., Greece Dossier):
  • Dashboard: At the top, you’ll find key indicators (Population, GDP, Area, Capital) and an interactive map.
  • Deep Data: Scroll down to explore comprehensive data across categories like Geography, Economy, People, and Government.
  • Historical Timeline: Click the Options menu or the link in the “Introduction” card to open the country’s Chronological History Timeline (e.g., Greece History Timeline). Explore major milestones, a 4x4 interactive visual sprite grid, and deep editorial analysis (complete with country/world impact scores, key figures, and geo-locations).
• Search: Use the fuzzy search bar at the top or the direct smart search endpoint (e.g., try searching with typos: /search?q=fRnce) to instantly find any country or territory by name, code, or region (with Levenshtein-distance typo tolerance).

2. Interactive Data Games & Showcases

GeoGnos provides rich, visual ways to study history and geography:

• Chronology Puzzle: Accessible from the timeline’s Options menu, this drag-and-drop game challenges you to order historical events chronologically (e.g., Greece Chronology Puzzle).
  • Select from multiple difficulty levels (4, 8, 12, or 16 events) and modes (Local/World impact focus).
  • Toggle transient date hints to help you when stuck.
  • Unlock local and global achievements in your local browser Trophy Room.
• Cinematic Showcases: Accessible from the country’s Options menu or the navigation header, these let you explore 3D cinematic timelines of country history milestones (e.g., Greece Visual Showcase) or points of interest (e.g., Greece Points of Interest Showcase). Navigate the timeline using the on-screen play controls or by pressing the Left/Right Arrow keys on your keyboard or by pressing the buttons row above. Cycle through a beautiful 3D perspective scroll, read detailed illustration/POI descriptions, or search for other countries. Toggle the autoplay settings (including loop and auto-play playlist modes) to watch the timeline advance automatically.

3. Educator & Classroom Research Tools

GeoGnos is engineered from the ground up to support teachers, students, and homeschool researchers with frictionless educational workflows:

• Educator Mode: Toggle “Educator Mode” in the History Timeline’s Options menu (or click any milestone’s “Details” pill) to reveal US curriculum grade-level alignment (e.g., Middle School • Grade 6+, cognitive stage reasoning) and curated critical thinking discussion questions for classroom discourse, debates, and essays.
• 1-Click Printable Activity Worksheets: Click the Print button on any discussion question (or Print All on a milestone) to generate an ink-efficient, self-contained student activity handout. Each worksheet includes student header fields (Name, Date, Period), historical context, boxed inquiry questions, ruled handwriting response lines, and an offline vector QR code for students to scan with a phone, iPad, or Chromebook to inspect high-resolution digital artifacts and primary sources.
• Google Classroom 1-Click Sharing: Click Classroom on any Country Dossier, History Timeline, Chronology Puzzle, or individual discussion question to create an instant assignment or announcement directly in Google Classroom.
• 1-Click Academic Citations: Click Cite Resource in the Options menu on any country profile, timeline, or puzzle to instantly generate and copy ready-to-paste academic citations in APA (7th), MLA (9th), Chicago (17th), Harvard, or BibTeX format for bibliographies and essays.
• Copy Assignment Prompt: Click Copy on any discussion question card to copy a pre-formatted assignment prompt (with direct resource link) ready to paste into Google Docs, Canvas, Schoology, or emails.

4. Global Country Synchronization

GeoGnos automatically remembers your active country as you browse.

• If you select Singapore in the Visual Showcase and then navigate to the Places profile or the Chronology Puzzle, GeoGnos will automatically synchronize and load Singapore for you.
• The History Visuals link in the navigation header updates dynamically to point directly to your last selected country.

5. Global Rankings

The Rankings section is a powerful tool for comparative analysis.

• Choose a Metric: Select from dozens of statistical indicators (e.g., Refugees, Internet Users, Natural Gas Exports).
• Filter by Group: Use the “Group” filter to narrow down the list to specific organizations like the EU, NATO, G7, or OPEC.
• Compare Mode: Select multiple countries from the list to see them side-by-side.
• Share Your View: The URL updates automatically as you filter and select. Copy the link to share your specific data view with others.

6. Tips & Tricks

• Dark Mode: Toggle the sun/moon icon in the top right to switch between light and dark themes.
• Quick Search: Press / (forward slash) on your keyboard to focus the search bar from anywhere in the app.
• Install App (PWA): Click Install App in the footer (or use your browser’s install option) to install GeoGnos as a standalone desktop or mobile app. Enjoy full-screen immersion without browser URL bars, instant launch from your home screen or desktop taskbar, and taskbar shortcuts for quick navigation.
• Share: Click the Share button in the header (or on individual pages) to quickly copy the current page link or share it to social media.
