Known as Heliopolis in antiquity, Baalbek features some of the largest and best-preserved Roman ruins in the world, including the colossal Temple of Bacchus and the Temple of Jupiter. A profound site for archaeology students studying Roman imperial architecture and ancient engineering. The best time to visit is during spring (April-May) to avoid the intense summer heat. Tip: Hire a local guide to fully grasp the sheer scale of the megalithic foundation stones, including the famous Stone of the Pregnant Woman nearby.
