“Untouched Coral Atoll”
UNESCO World Heritage siteStunning natural wonder
Aldabra is one of the world's largest raised coral atolls and a pinnacle of ecological and evolutionary study. Historically significant for its extreme isolation, it escaped human destruction and remains a primeval refuge for the world's largest population of giant tortoises (over 100,000). For researchers and eco-tourists, it offers an unparalleled glimpse into an undisturbed island ecosystem. Due to strict conservation laws, access is highly restricted. The best season to visit is during the calmer weather from October to April. Tourist tip: Visiting requires prior approval from the Seychelles Islands Foundation and is usually done via specialized expedition cruises.
